The Standard
What is CAN/ULC-S1001?
CAN/ULC-S1001 is the Standard for Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems.
Individual building systems may be tested and commissioned separately, but Integrated Systems Testing verifies that the interfaces between those systems operate together as intended.
Depending on the building and its design, testing may involve interactions between fire alarm, sprinkler, elevators, emergency power, smoke control, HVAC, fire and smoke dampers, electromagnetic locking systems, hold-open devices, fire pumps and other integrated building systems.

When is S1001 Testing Required?
CAN/ULC-S1001 Integrated Systems Testing may be required where fire protection and life safety systems are designed to operate as integrated systems. Applicable requirements depend on the building, its systems, the governing Building Code and the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
Identifying the testing requirements early allows the project team to properly plan system coordination, testing activities and occupancy requirements. PSquare can assist project teams in reviewing the applicable Integrated Systems Testing requirements for their project.
